Dr. Sarah Carotenuto
Dr. Sarah Carotenuto joined the Canyon Pet Hospital family in June 2007. She graduated summa cum laude from Duke University in 1999 with her undergraduate degree in Political Science, with a concentration in International Environmental Policy. After graduation, she worked in the fields of consulting and public policy while living in New York City.
Dr. Sarah and her husband, who was working on Wall Street at the time, were witness to and intimately affected by the World Trade Center tragedy on September 11, 2001. After this event, she and her husband decided to change directions and dedicate their lives and careers to faith- and community-based careers. While in New York City, Sarah volunteered with Bide-a-Wee Animal Shelter, as a wildlife guide at the Central Park Zoo and participated in wildlife research in Binghamton, New York.
Dr. Sarah graduated with honors from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in May 2007. She received the Clinical Proficiency award for Small Animal Medicine. While in veterinary school, Dr. Sarah worked as a veterinary nurse for the Veterinary Specialty Hospital of the Carolinas in their Internal Medicine, Emergency and Intensive Care Unit departments. Dr. Sarah and her husband decided to relocate to northern Arizona after volunteering for two weeks on the Navajo reservation during the summer of 2006 performing free and low-cost veterinary services. They look forward to continuing this work in the future.
Dr. Sarah enjoys both small and large animal medicine and has a special interest in orthopedics and emergency and critical care. She is finishing her certification to take PennHIP radiographs for the early diagnosis and treatment of canine hip dysplasia in breeding animals and affected dogs. Dr. Sarah has also completed the AO Fracture Management and Bone Plating Introductory course.
Dr. Sarah enjoys hiking, biking, being active in a local church, cooking and crafts. She shares her home with Vincent, her husband of seven years, her two dogs, Peanut Butter and Jelly, and her cat, Tetelestai.
